I would love to listen to Randy when playing very soft -Piano music .Then all of a sudden he gives permission to his Moroccan drummer Abdelaziz to beat his instrument endlessly .

















The first time i met up with Randy Weston was at Hassan Hotel in Rabat in 1996/1998 .Television in Morocco was under severe control that time .We were hardly to express ourselves freely . I listened to his Piano music and i knew then that i was in front of a master of Jazz and rythm .Randy loved Africa and its roots and he found Gnawa music much appealing to his playing fingers on Piano-Forte. He was also in love with Morocco, because the images that this country gives ,mingled with beautiful colours and sounds, inspire so many artists in the world especially Randy Weston .
At Hassan Hotel in Rabat , i had the honor and Privilege to talk to Randy who seemed much taller than myself .We sat down and had a nice Arabica coffee at the Terrace just near the swimming -pool of the Hotel. Randy Weston has a nice Chicago style of how to handle talks .His African suit fit his hight and he really looks great as an African King. He listened more than he talked .This kind of his psychological behaviour gives Randy more respect and glamour.Just as I sipped my cup of coffe, I suggested to Randy to make a clip out of his piece of music ," A Night In The Medina" that he composed specially for the old Medina in Rabat . This piece of music reflects vibrations of those narrawed and dark streets . They give the impression that we are into something mysterious and deep ,and that inspires Randy Weston to write this music. He said That he was really amazed by the quietness of these streets unlike New york ones. When i still listen to this piece of music , it really gives me a sensation of belonging to something that is very near to my environment , may be my Moroccan roots and origins, i mean excatly the Arican ones . Those who supearheaded television that time, unfortunaltely, did not take my idea seriously the dream and will of illustrating Randy Weston's music into a Clip-image .This artistic project remained buried as a hostage for so many years around TV project files which is a pity for someone who really loves this country.

CINEMAMED might go Holly-Bolly

Cinemamed is a three-year project set up to develop co-operation between European countries and countries of the Mediterranean basin in the cinematic and audio-visual sector. Cinemamed develops and activates its planned activities along the same lines which guide the audio-visual co-operation activities of the European Commission set out in the Euromed Audiovisual plan. It compares various cinema productions and structures in a common region, the Mediterranean basin, where the most ancient of civilizations had their origin. Even today, it is the place where different cultures and religions meet and often fight. Cinemamed's objective is to help the circulation of art and ideas in places where the public would otherwise have no opportunity for seeing them. Just as the most enlightened cinema audiences in Europe do not know what is going on along the southern shores of the Mediterranean, so Arab audiences tend not to get to see the latest European output. Cinemamed tries, at least in part, to bridge this gap, and to make cinema production more widely known in Europe and around the Mediterranean. Cinemamed also tries to consolidate the wealth of Mediterranean and European cinema in archives by means of the recovery and restoration of film material. Cinemamed has also been set up to marry professional experience with University disciplines, and to develop a distribution network to spread productions around the various markets. But the Cinemamed's real objective is to build up common knowledge based on reciprocal respect and on the idea of diversity as a value. Finding producers in Morocco

To judge whether cinema at home has achieved nervana in production making remains a guestion of controvercy and critiria especially talking about how to finance movies nationally .Surely the emergence of new young energy is rather giving Moroccan cinema a new sigh .After liberation from French colonists (see 1958 bills and acts) and apart from Hamid Bennani 's movie ( Washma) and Reguab 's ( Hallaq Derb Al Foukara), cinema productions, at that time, were really bad as far as techniques and savoir faire as concerned, but now with the help of both the state ( CCM strategies) and also European aids , movies of (H. BELABBES, F. BNSAIDI, N. NEJJAR, S. FARROUKHI…) have let good impresssions either internationally and nationally by film critics .

However , cinemagoers in Morocco would love to see national producersimposing themselves rather than foreign ones who, some of them backed by their governement , pour millions and millions of Euros to deepen their facon d'etre ( see imposing french language and the way of french thinking ) .

So, now again the question is in the hand of both the state and individuals , strengthen policies of finding new mechanisms of how to encourage home film producers might give Morocco a nice push and a handsome position cinematically speaking in order to take the lead in Africa , otherwise our screen -theatres project only mediocre films and culturaly speaking what the north want to watch (prototypes of submitted and stupid Moroccans) besides people would hate more filmmakers to shoot their films on their streets just as they did to Kamal Kamal when he wanted to begin shooting his TV Telefim ' Rgagna ' in Essaouira recently .(Allal El Alaoui)

Alain Sarde

Alain Sarde 's energy on making movies is great than ever .As a producer, because he is also an actor ,Alain has made very important movies either in twentieth century or even still does the same thing now . Any country in the world should have had a non -stop producer like Alain Sarde who continuously loves cinema and its techniques.
There are many international filmmakers who would love to work with him namely David Lynch,Scorsese and Emir Kuturica. Alain Sarde Recent work is a movie about the Tragedy that happenend in Napoli ( POMPEII) Italy .This movie might be directed by Roman Polanski who has already worked with Alain in The Pianist nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture and BAFTA Award (1) for best Film .( Allal El Aloui)
